KILA has been a leader in promoting decentralisation and local governance.It is a premier institute in India involved in strengthening local governance and decentralisation, capacity building for local leadership,addressing gender equality, fostering social and economic development in rural areas,supporting Kerala’s unique development model .The research centres of the institute carry out different programs aimed at bettering local governance in the state of Kerala.Over the years the institute has made an indelible mark of excellence in training, capacity development and research through the concerted work of our faculty.This academic year onwards KILA has started functioning a College affiliated to the University of Calicut at the KILA headquarters campus to create a new generation of specialists who are equipped to work with local bodies, ensuring better natural resource management and governance at local level.I wish each and every one of you our constant help and support in your every effort to grow and bloom.

About CDLG

Kerala institute of local administration has been working since 1990 in the areas of decentralization and local governance specially focusing on the capacity building and empowerment of elected representatives and officials. Through its training programs, research initiatives, and policy recommendations, KILA works to ensure that local governments operate efficiently, transparently, and in a manner that promotes participatory democracy. The institute’s efforts have contributed to the empowerment of local communities by building the skills and knowledge required for effective local governance.
With this vast experience in Rural development and decentralized governance through this college aims in expanding KILA’s efforts into formal education would have multiple benefits, complementing its current role in capacity building and training. This expansion would create structured, long-term educational opportunities that could address the complex needs of local governance and rural development in a more sustained and impactful way. Through two courses, B.A. Honours in Gender and Development Studies and B.A. Honours in Rural Development and Governance would not only enhance local capacity but also contribute to more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable governance practices across rural Kerala and beyond.
This program is designed to align with Kerala’s progressive approach towards a knowledge society, these innovative courses offer a unique blend of theory, practice, and experiential learning to prepare you for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
